Reachability Analysis for Atmospheric Re-entry Vehicle

Published:

The objective of this study is to develop and formulate a robust method for calculating reachable sets in nonlinear systems, focusing specifically on zonotopes and constrained zonotopes. This methodology innovatively employs constrained zonotopes and incorporates state constraints through the use of half‐spaces. Furthermore, the computation of the reachable set operates on a set‐theoretic framework that relies on numerical approximations. Building on prior work, the sets are defined mathematically. The validity of the proposed method is substantiated through its application in two models. First, it is tested on the simplified Dubin’s model, followed by a more comprehensive evaluation using a complex hypersonic reentry vehicle, with the latter being given greater emphasis. The Note further advances the field by introducing an analysis of inner approximation. Additionally, it investigates the effects of uncertain parameters and heating rate on reachable sets.
